Palm Beach is its own ecosystem in the smaller pocket of the Northern Beaches, encompassing quiet luxury and coastal ambience. As such, it has a cornucopia of hidden culinary gems, ranging from established venues to our partner caterers.
On both the Pittwater and Pacific sides of Palmy, there are restaurants refined to adhere to the Palmy palette- Mediterranean dishes with an iconic Aussie flourish. If you’re looking to truly integrate into the local scene during your stay with us, the following restaurant, fine dining and caterer guide should be the blueprint.
Cafe’s
Starting with the Pacific side of Palm beach, we have popular local haunts like the beloved 2108 cafe– featuring your classic Australian breakfast foods, situated across from the sand at the southern end of Palm Beach. Come summer, 2108 is packed with local denizens catching up with friends or family. Whether you’re donning your activewear for a quick walk down the stretch, or simply looking to enjoy the morning sun, 2108 is your one-stop shop for a coffee fix on the sea side of the peninsula.
2108 is also dog friendly. If you stop by, be sure to give their furry mascot Sammy a pat.
If you’re looking for something similar but want to avoid the chaos of the Palmy weekend rush, the Joey on the Pittwater side of Palmy might just be a perfect fit.
Replacing the beloved Boathouse, the Joey features excellent service and a larger menu for a more formal brunch experience. Facing the serene Pittwater, the restaurant has seating extending almost onto the dock. On either side the beach stretches, perfect for walks before or after your meal. For the more adventurous, the hike up to Palm Beach lighthouse begins at the end of this strip, with the Joey the perfect place to stop before attempting the climb. In the summer evenings, the Joey is open for dinner as well.
The Joey is dog friendly outside, and offers a takeaway service.
Fine Dining
While the Joey and 2108 are excellent venues for a sit down meal, with the Joey open into the summer evening, there are three more beloved destinations that encompass the quintessential Palm Beach dining experience. All of these venues are suitable for well-behaved children, and are ideal for celebratory dinner, or a chance to get a little dressed up.
A beautiful boutique restaurant owned by the Boathouse group since 2018, Barrenjoey House offers scenic views of Pittwater, quality dining and amazing service. The ambience of the restaurant perfectly compliments a coastal dining experience, with marine decor and an extensive menu, with choices suitable for children.
I’d recommend booking in advance during the peak summer season to secure a table.
While Barrenjoey House is often the first choice for a dinner occasion, when it comes to the balmy summer nights in the midst of January, no venue can out perform the ever popular Dunes Palm beach, a frequent host of beach weddings and perfect for a light summer lunch, or romantic dinner.
Dunes Palm Beach features a comfortable, open atmosphere, with attentive staff and a Mediterranean menu. White-washed, white curtains and gorgeous timber, the dining room is the perfect spot for a meal, before a romantic walk along the north Palmy Dunes.
Bookings are essential in summer- checking availability due to the high volume of weddings hosted by the venue.
With our recommendations on the Pacific and Pittwater side complete, it’s time for something in the middle, both geographically and in terms of ambience and style, perfectly melding the spirit of coastal dining perfected by Dunes, mixed with the gorgeous decor and atmosphere of Barrenjoey House.
The Palm Beach Golf Club offers lunch and dinner to non-members, with seating upstairs overlooking the pristine lawns, featuring a peek at Pittwater, and the Pacific just over the dunes. With an implemented dress code and curated menu perfect for the refined palette, the Golf Club is perfect for an early dinner or quiet meal.
Booking would be recommended to secure your table, particularly in summer evenings.
RSL
While all of our above options are excellent options for many different types of occasions, there is one more destination in Palmy that it would be a disservice not to mention, due to their long withstanding presence as comfortable integrations into every locals weekly dining experience.
The Palm Beach RSL has been serving the community since 1957, offering seniors discounts, a kids menu, an aviary, and the beloved chocolate machine. Very suitable for families of all kinds, the RSL is a perfect destination for a more relaxed dinner, with plush carpets and lovely staff.
